Organic search, the process of finding web sites having unpaid search engine listings, as opposed to using the pay per click advertisement listings displayed among the search results. The field of search engine optimization, (SEO), is concerned with maximizing the visibility of a web site by making its listings appear more frequently and more prominently in organic search results.

At SWI Digital, we have website in our portfolio called Product Liability Lawyer. This is actually one of my client sites, and is ranked number one in Google on four main search terms. They include:

Product liability attorney
Product liability attorneys
Product liability lawyer
Product liability lawyers

This is great for our clients since Google is the number one search engine. However, we are opposite of many companies when it comes to ranking in Yahoo. We are not even in the top 100. Many other companies who are highly ranked in Yahoo and MSN can’t get ranked in Google.

Another website that is ranked high in Google is my personal website, which I am currently developing into a blog. It is ranked #2 in Google for the term “Group and Team Dynamics.” This site is also ranked #8 in Yahoo on “Group and Team Dynamics.”

The key to a good search term is one with the number of competing pages is less than 1,500. With “group and team dynamics,” I saw that there were 178 estimated searches in a month according to Overture, and 478 competing pages in Google. This makes it the ideal search term.
