Video Interviewing: The Newest Interviewing Technique

Last Fall, there has been lots of talking about the advent of Web 2.0 when Hillary Clinton announcing her candidacy for President via the Web, and using the web for the majority of her campaigning to lure young voters. Now human resources professionals have a brand new tool in their screening and interviewing arsenal — the video interview.

This is not to be confused with the deplorable YouTube video resume we heard about last year. This is interviewing done in a fair and equitable environment with equal questions presented to each candidate via a video interview.

This is thought to be more cost effective in many ways, as well as meeting EEOC requirements. I’ve talked with one vendor, Bryan St.Laurent of InterviewUSA, who has explained many aspects of this tool to me.

One candidate asked him to present his L.A. Metro Recruiter Network video via his online networking meeting on March 13. He promised to explain the new technology, the differences between the interviewing compared with the resume, and many other aspects of the tool.

What he’s also pointed out is how useful this is for initial steps toward onboarding separated military personnel and how cost effective it is for candidates who will require relocation.

Have any other HR professionals heard about this technology or are considering it?
